Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep
And can’t tell where to find them.
Leave them alone, And they’ll come home,
Wagging their tails behind them
Inspired by a scrap of vintage fabric found at the flea market a couple months ago, of wee bo peeps and her sheeps in blue and pink. “How very Blastmilk!” I thought and decided immediately to do my own Bo Peep with it. I had a number of down days being ill in August, so spent them pattern making and hand stitching the bodice while convalescing on the sofa and watching 234734 hours of “The Duchess of Duke Street.” This time the second item on the list were the panniers. I usually leave them for last and run out of time and end up faking them.
For the 18th century polonaise pattern I made there’s a few things I will do differently next time. Allow for a tad of pleating on the back of the sleeve where it meets the armhole. Mine are completely fitted, and this wasn’t actually usually the case I’ve since noticed, but had been for the previous dress I made. Next, the waist was too long, even for SD13 Hermione. You can see on the back where it bunches up under the arm and the waist point in back is totally lost, Due also in part to the lack of stiffness inthe bodice, so I would like to try boning it strategically next time. The stomacher I made, fully boned, works perfect and I think the bodice could use it.
Bo Peep’s lamby: Now… one would think this was my plan all along. No! I had actually been shopping for toy sheep and failed to come up with anything suitable. Well, wednesday night before the party on that Sunday, I woke up at 3am with “duh! Miette will be dressed as a sheep!” But I only had two evenings left so I planned initially just to make her a little cap. Thankfully I remembered there was a pattern in Dolly Dolly for a msd sheep hoodie. Once I’d picked out the whoolly baby blue fabric and some matching short cut soft fur, I knew I had to do the complete outfit. And it was worth it. Up til 3am both nights, and still sewing my own costume in the hotel room the night before, we barely made it out the door the next day. I wrapped Bo Peep’s crook in ribbon that morning before breakfast! Phew!
We were very happy to win 2nd place at the Volks Dolly Customize Contest, there were many, many awesome entries. And I got this cool doorstop as a prize!
